Hotel Verta – Von Essen Hotels




The Client, Von Essen Hotels approached Pyramid to design and install a high end hotel and leisure AV system befitting the style and quality of the latest hotel in the Von Essen Collection, the new 5* Hotel Verta situated on the London Vertical Gateway Heliport in Battersea.


Situated within a new build on the waterfront in Battersea, the project demanded the very best equipment and design to ensure the AV systems met the exacting and demanding standards set by the hotels’ owners and clientele alike.


Working over two phases for the duration of the build we worked with the builders Weston Homes Ltd to install all the first fix cabling and speakers into the project prior to handover to Von Essen in the summer of 2010.


The final fit and commissioning period was very short and we had around six weeks to complete. A team of six engineers finished the task in time for the opening early in September 2010.


Pyramid were awarded ‘Commercial Installation of the Year – Highly Commended Prize’ for this project by Essential Install Magazine.




We designed and installed music systems for:

  • public areas including bars
  • restaurant and reception
  • spa facilities
  • business and function spaces


LINN audio systems were chosen throughout as a high end solution to background and function space solutions. Localised inputs for music streams and ipods allow preset music and event based music requirements to be included within the business areas and meeting rooms.


LINN CUSTOM 104 and Diskreet speakers were used extensively in all areas alongside LINN Diskreets to create a fabulous sound in all of the hotel’s 24 music zones.


The Public areas systems allow a choice of three music streams to be selected from various control panels in the reception and bars, and the music is split into seven zones to allow for different levels and sources to be selected.


All areas are driven by an Allen & Heath audio DSP which provides area EQ and system presets which are recalled by the AMX systems.


AV systems for business areas;

  • Integrated AMX control systems throughout
  • Dual projection system
  • Multiple screen and floorbox inputs
  • Integration with Dynalite lighting throughout all areas
  • Polycom HD Video conferencing Business Areas


Six individual meeting spaces provide independent presentation systems with multiple inputs for PC’s and audio provided in each area. Radio mics, lighting control interface and a mobile HD video conferencing system complete the set up.


The main function room and pre-function room benefit from the Linn audio system as well as the dual projection and multi input facility, controlled by a wireless touchpanel. The AMX controller allows seamless switching of video sources, control over four channels of radio mics and lighting preset recall for the complete conference room system. The pre-function room can operate as a stand alone or linked system allowing overflow from the main room AV systems.


Spa Areas

LINN audio systems were also specified for the luxury spa areas which included individually controlled music streams to each zone via the AMX Modero controls.


In each Treatment Room, staff can choose from two separate music streams to suit the mood, as well as control volume and lighting presets to complete the ambience for personal treatments.


One important part of the system is a staff call and staff panic alarm facility which alerts staff via the Reception AMX panel and a  xenon beacon and audible alarm depending on the nature of the call. Calls have to be acknowledged by a member of staff and the Main Reception is part of the monitoring system.


The various steam rooms, solariums and sauna areas each have their own systems as well as the changing rooms and plunge pool and are arranged over two floors of the hotel.


Digital Signage

Digital Signage systems for;

  • Reception
  • Lift lobby
  • Business Areas – meeting room signage

Eleven individually controllable Onelan driven digital signage systems were installed into the lift and reception areas using 60″ and 30″ portrait LCD screens housed in custom designed glass surrounds to match the hotel decor.


A further eight screens housed in custom frames were deployed around the Business Areas which allows for individual room names to be shown as well as the ability to show client specific images, videos and logos for private, corporate and business meetings.
